Armour Glaze

Misted double glazing, replaced without changing the frame

If your window looks foggy and wiping it does nothing, the moisture is trapped between the panes. A new sealed unit, made to size in our own workshop, clears it for good.

Condensation trapped between the panes of a failed double glazed unit

Why double glazing mists up

A double glazed window is a sealed unit: two panes of glass, a spacer around the edge and a sealed cavity between them. Over time that seal can fail. Damp air gets into the cavity, and as the temperature changes it condenses on the inside faces of the glass, where you cannot reach it.

That is why it comes back however often you wipe it. Condensation on the room side of the glass is a ventilation matter, but mist between the panes means the unit itself has failed and needs replacing.

Why you probably do not need a new window

When a unit has failed, the frame around it is usually still in good order. Replacing only the glass costs far less than a new window and causes much less disruption, and you keep the frames you already have.

We make our own sealed units, so each one is built to the exact size of your window, whether it is a standard rectangle or an unusual shape. Having no middleman in the chain keeps the price down.

  • Fog, haze or droplets between the panes
  • White marks or residue on the inner glass faces
  • Streaks that move with the weather and cannot be wiped off

Common questions

Can misted double glazing be repaired without replacing the glass?

Moisture trapped between the panes means the seal has failed. The dependable fix is a new sealed unit fitted into your existing frame.
